How to join

  1. Activate your membership

Full-time undergrads already have one; sign the Campus Rec Student Agreement (it takes up to 24 hours to process). Grad, exchange, part-time and Woods College students, faculty and staff can buy a membership.

  2. Sign in to RecConnect

On the 51动漫 network or Eagle VPN, open Intramurals and create your IMLeagues account. You'll agree to the Code of Conduct when you sign up.

  3. Register

Sign up your team during that sport's registration window, or join as a free agent any time during the season.

Spots go fast. Demand is high and we can't guarantee every team a spot, so line up your teammates before registration opens.

Become an IM official

Officials work with their peers to keep games welcoming, safe and fun. You'll learn several sports, work 2–3 days a week (Thursdays on a rotating schedule), and can help behind the scenes with planning for the season.

Code of Conduct

Winning can be a goal, but camaraderie comes first. If a staff member decides a player, coach or fan has crossed the line, that person is disqualified from the game and must meet with the Assistant Director, Competitive Sports before playing again.

Fun

Enjoyable games in a positive, inviting place.

Honesty

Integrity, trust, fairness, responsibility and accountability.

Respect

Treating others with respect isn't up for debate. In the end, we're all Eagles.

Professionalism

A program our student staff grow in and players are proud of.

Passion

Players and officials bring positive energy to every game.

Community

Lasting friendships across Boston College.

Who can play

Any Campus Rec member can play. Full-time undergrads are members automatically; grad students, faculty and staff can buy a membership.

You can't play a sport if you've played it (or an equivalent sport) professionally, were on its varsity roster this school year, or are on its club team when your intramural team is already at its club-player limit. An equivalent sport is one close enough to give an unfair advantage: baseball players can't play intramural softball, and football players can't play flag football.

  • No more than two club athletes or former varsity athletes in that sport (or an equivalent sport) on one team. Co-rec teams: two total, any mix.
  • Former varsity athletes must be off that team's roster for one full calendar year.
What gets you disqualified
  • Damaging or abusing 51动漫 property, fields, gyms, the rink or equipment
  • Alcohol, smoking or illegal substances
  • Verbal or physical misconduct toward anyone: officials, opponents, teammates, fans or staff
  • Arguing too much with an official's call
  • Using equipment dangerously

Questions about what counts as misconduct go to the Intramural Office.

Sportsmanship

Players and fans are expected to be civil before, during and after every game. Behavior that promotes intolerance or prejudice, degrades any racial, ethnic, gender or religious group, makes sexual references, demeans someone's skill or intellect, or promotes destructive behavior will be dealt with. That includes team names and anything posted on IMLeagues.

Penalties

Suspension: the Assistant Director, Competitive Sports can suspend players or teams for conduct violations. Conduct that's inappropriate for any 51动漫 student also goes to the Office of Student Affairs.

Ejections: a player ejected from a game may be suspended from future games and must meet with the Assistant Director before playing again.

Team penalties: a team with two players ejected from one game forfeits it, whatever the score, and may be suspended. A team rated 1 for sportsmanship must have its manager (and possibly the players involved) meet with the Assistant Director before it's reinstated.

Sportsmanship ratings

Officials rate both teams after every game.

5Excellent: a model for the league
4Good: no warnings or unsporting fouls
3Average: some grumbling, captain in control
2Below average: constant comments to officials
1Poor: uncooperative, no control
  • Regular season: you need an average of 3.0 or better to make the playoffs. Ratings also break regular-season ties.
  • Playoffs: you need 3.0 or better in each game to advance. If both teams fall below 3.0, both are out and the next round is a bye.

FAQs

How much does it cost?

Nothing extra. Intramurals are free with a Campus Rec membership, and you need a membership to play. For undergrads, it's covered by the student activities fee in tuition.

When does each league start?

See the live leagues listing on this page for registration windows and start dates. Dates can change.

I don't have a team. Can I still play?

Yes. Sign up as a free agent on IMLeagues any time during the season, then browse registered teams and ask to join. We can't guarantee a free agent gets picked up, and we don't assign free agents to teams.

Can I play on two teams?

Not in the same sport, unless one is a co-rec team. You can play as many different sports as you like at the same time.

Can women play on men's teams?

Yes, but then you can't also play on a women's team in that sport.

How much time does it take?

Most teams play one game a week; playoff games come more often. We don't book practice time (all of our facility space goes to games), so any practices are up to your team.

Can we add players during the season?

Yes, as long as they're eligible, have an IMLeagues account, and you add them at least a day before your next game. Within 24 hours of a game, roster changes have to be made in person at the Intramural Office during office hours.

How many teams make the playoffs, and when do they start?

As many as facility space allows; we aim to get every team in. Captains hear how many teams qualify as early as possible. Playoffs start soon after the last regular-season game, and teams get the schedule by email 48 hours before their first playoff game.

Where can I store my hockey bag?

We don't have storage for hockey bags; keep yours in your residence hall. Check with your RA or RD before you bring it in.

How do I become an official?

IM officials are hired through Student Employment.

Our mission

To provide exercise, recreation and fun in a relaxed but structured setting, building leadership, teamwork, respect and integrity along the way. Play your best, but the real value is the friendships you make with other players and staff.
