Profile

I am a Professor of Health Services Administration at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). ¯I have received formal training in¯quantitative methods, including¯survey design,¯analysis of complex sample survey data, and the evaluation of psychometric properties of surveys.

In addition to academic training, I have six years of experience working in the private sector as a consultant to physicians associated with hospital systems on topics such as patient quality measurement and performance, financial performance, and implementation of¯health care innovations. ¯

My research on delivery system innovations focuses on¯evaluating the impact¯of delivery system changes on long-term patient-level health outcomes.¯I am currently collaborating with the UAB learning health system (LHS) initiatives in partnership with Hospital Medicine and the Office of Quality and Safety.  Through this work, I help clinical collaborators translate their front-line insights from delivering care into testable research questions with rigorous methods. By leveraging our respective skill sets, we were able to investigate questions with impactful clinical and/or translational takeaways for how care is delivered. Other topics I have examined include health care environments and their leadership, patient experience scores, accountable care teams, and patient engagement.
